August 17, 2005

The Board of Trustees of the North Canton Public Library held a regular meeting on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at the library. Others: Karen Sonderman, Farilyn Buchman. Guests: Dolores Albrecht, Linda Hackworth.

The ACME Receipt Rebate Program donated $232.45 from patron receipt collection

The College Club Book Review III group donated $20.00 for the purchase of a book in memory of Florence Stahler

The Director presented the statistical report for July 2005. A 12% drop in circulation of last July was created by a smaller than usual participation in the juvenile summer reading registration. Changes to our web server have created some unusual numbers in our service statistics report. The current server counts website use as actual entry into our site, while the old server counted every listing of our site created by a search. Access to Audio and E-Book downloads is now available on our home page. A library card will be needed to access this service and every download in which a patron using our library card will be counted as a circulation.

There was a discussion regarding recent changes to the State Sales Tax requirements, and it was agreed that we would not obtain a vendors license unless it is required or recommended by the Ohio Library Council for library services. A change in the gallery art sales procedures will require that purchases of art be a direct transaction between the artist and the purchaser.

Mr. Shoup reported for the Building Committee, that the awning that Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hoover requested be purchased for over the gallery patio, has been ordered and should be installed before fall. Mrs. Hoover noted that she and her husband did not mean that they would purchase this awning, but that previous gifts made from the family trust should be used for the purchase.

Mrs. Hoover, Art Committee Chair, reported that the Friends of the Little Art Gallery will be having a display at the August 14th Main Street Festival. Following the Main Street Festival, the street light banners in front of the library will be replaced with banners celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Little Art Gallery. The design for these banners, as well as other graphic designs for use in the library and at the Chamber of Commerce, have been donated by Rudy Amatangelo. Opening on September 2, and continuing through October 9th, the gallery will be displaying A Touch of Class, featuring a cross section of art by the teachers and students who study here at the library.

Mr. Shoup, Personnel Committee Chair, reported that the search for a new Head of Reference has been completed. Sandra Lang had been working at the Louisville Public Library in a variety of positions. She appears to be an excellent fit for this opening.

Mrs. Schiltz moved, Mrs. Hoover seconding, to approve the appointment of Sandra Lang as Head of Reference, effective August 28, 2005, at a beginning hourly rate of $18.00 per hour. Ayes: Hoover, Lawton, Schiltz, Shoup, Zollinger. Absent: Dansizen, Smetana.

Dolores Albrecht stated that the Technical Serviced Department has been very busy with the ordering and processing of new materials.

Linda Hackworth reported that the Circulation Department has had some personnel changes recently that should enhance service to the public. Her staff is looking forward to being able to take credit cards for fines and fees.

It was reported that the Friends of the Library will be holding their summer book sale August 12th through August 15th, and that they will be open during the August 14th Main Street Festival.

Then next regular meeting of the North Canton Public Library Board of Trustees will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2005.

Mr. Lawton moved, Mrs. Zollinger seconding, to adjourn the meeting at 9:05 a.m. Ayes: Hoover, Lawton, Schiltz, Shoup, Zollinger. Absent: Dansizen, Smetana.
