The Board of Trustees of the North Canton Public library held a regular
meeting on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at the library. Mr. Shoup called the
meeting to order at 8:00 am with the following members present: Mr. Dansizen,
Mr. Hoover, Mr. Lawton, Mr. Smetana, Mrs. Zollinger. Absent: Mrs. Schiltz.
Others: Karen Sonderman. Guests: Phil Stahler, Linda Bayman, Janet Herrick.
Mr. Lawton moved, Mr. Dansizen seconding, to accept the minutes of the June
16, 2004 meeting as corrected. Ayes: Dansizen, Hoover, Lawton, Shoup, Smetana,
Zollinger. Absent: Schiltz.
Mr. Lawton moved, Mrs. Zollinger seconding, to accept the financial statements
for June 2004, and that they be filed for audit. Ayes: Dansizen, Hoover,
Lawton, Shoup, Smetana, Zollinger. Absent: Schiltz.
Mr. Lawton moved, Mr. Dansizen seconding, to accept the following gifts for
the Memorial and Gift Fund:
Rev. John and Betty Armbrust gave $25.00 for the purchase of materials in
memory of Jean F. Grubb
Hubert and Shirley Howes gave $50.00 for the purchase of materials in memory
of Jean F. Grubb
Elaine S. Armburst gave $25.00 for the purchase of materials in memory of

Brecksville Dental Clinic employees gave $95.00 for the purchase of

Mr. Dansizen moved, Mrs. Hoover seconding, to accept the gift of a laminator
from the Friends of the North Canton Public Library. Ayes: Dansizen, Hoover,

The Director presented the statistics for June 2004. There was an 11% increase
over June 2003, with a 7% increase for the year.
Mr. Dansizen moved, Mr. Lawton seconding that the library will be closed on
August 5,and 6, 2004 to tag books, install shelving, convert the Polaris
system to 3.1, wire gates and move the drinking fountain. Ayes: Danzisen,

The Director reported that there is discussion with the Heritage Society
concerning digitizing the early Sun Newspaper editions. The OLC Digital and
Collection Preservation Department will look at them.
The children’s summer reading programs have increased in attendance, and
several adult book discussions have also been well attended.
With continuing concerns for future cuts in the LLGSF budget a library
advocacy workshop for library board members of Stark, Summit and Portage
county libraries is being planned by Linda Murray.
Acme receipts have netted $489, which will be used to purchase a new bench for
the front of the library,
The board members were asked to sign an acknowledgment of the receipt of the
Ohio Ethics Law.
Mr. Dansizen, Building Committee Chair, reported that there is a preliminary
quote for electrical work in the technical services area, for the gates and
the relocation of the drinking fountain. He will present the figures at the
next meeting.
Relocation of the book drop is being considered. The concrete is in disrepair
near the front entrance and the front walks.
Mrs. Hoover, Art Committee Chair, reported that the opening night of the Amy
Lindenberger show was Saturday night, July 17, 2004. The show will remain
until August 14, 2004.
Ms. Bayman reported that the children’s summer reading programs have been well
attended and that several adult book discussions have also been well attended.
They will start working on the Fall newsletter next week.
Mr. Stahler reported that the Friends’ book sale is scheduled to coincide with
the Main Street Fair in August.
Mr. Dansizen moved, Mrs. Hoover seconding, to move to executive session at
8:50 a.m. to discuss a personnel grievance.
