The Director presented the statistical report for December and the Year 2003.  An overall increase of 28% for circulation in December allowed us to finish the year with a 4% system wide increase.  This was over 36,000 items more than in 2002, which is excellent considering the branch closing in July.  Should this rate of increase continue during 2004 we will easily circulate over 1 million items. Reference and Service statistics for December showed declines in most areas due mainly to fewer programs during the holiday season, but Internet computer usage showed no decline, and continues to be our largest service figure.  Each department was asked to prepare an annual report on their 2003 accomplishments.  These were distributed for review by Board members.

It was reported that the Library has been awarded the North Canton Chamber of Commerce Most Improved Facility for 2003.  This award was given in recognition of the expansion and renovation that was made to our building.  Mr. Dansizen, Building Committee Chair will be attending the awards banquet to accept this award.

Mrs. Hoover, Art Committee Chair, reported that the current show of photographs by Elizabeth Snedeker of Massillon has been very well accepted.  Opening on February 13, 2004 and continuing through April 18, 204 will be the Art From the Classrooms of North Canton City Schools.  The displays will begin with works from Hoover High School students.

Phil Stahler, Friends of the Library representative, reported that the book sale was a huge success.  Being able to use both lower level meeting rooms, and a quantity of borrowed tables, allowed for more items to be on display.  The total on income from the sale will be available for the next meeting.

The next regular meeting of the North Canton Public Library Board of Trustees will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at 8:00 a.m.

Mr. Dansizen moved, Mr. Lawton seconding, to adjourn the meeting at 8:32 a.m.  Ayes: Dansizen, Hoover, Lawton, Schiltz, Smetana.  Absent:  Shoup, Zollinger.
