NORTH CANTON PUBLIC
LIBRARY
The Board of Trustees of the North Canton Public Library held a regular meeting on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at the library. Mr. Shoup called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m. with the following members present: Mr. Dansizen, Mr. Lawton, Mr. Powell. Absent: Mrs. Hoover, Mrs. Schiltz, Mrs. Zollinger. Others: Karen Sonderman, Albert Scheimann. Guests: Phil Stahler, Missy Cline, Pat Swallen. Mr. Powell moved, Mr. Dansizen seconding, to accept the minutes of the February 19, 2003 minutes as presented. Ayes: Dansizen, Lawton, Powell, Shoup. Absent: Hoover, Schiltz, Zollinger. The Clerk-Treasurer’s report for February 2003 was accepted and filed for audit. Mr. Lawton moved, Mr. Dansizen seconding, to accept a Memorial Gift of $40.00 from the Neva-Dale Card Club for the purchase of a book in memory of Eleanor Houis. Ayes: Dansizen, Lawton, Powell, Shoup. Absent: Hoover, Schiltz, Zollinger. The Director presented the Statistical report for February 2003. The 6% increase at North Canton was enough to offset the 20% decline at the Greentown Branch, which averaged to a 2% system wide increase. There was a delay in retrieving the February statistics due to a Galaxy System data loss. Gaylord was able to assist with retrieving this information. Implementation of the Polaris System is on schedule. Mrs. Sonderman and Mr. Scheimann attended a week of training in Syracuse, where they learned to create system reports and perform administration duties. Staff training is scheduled for March 31 through April 4, with additional training scheduled for mid-April. The library has purchased a firewall system to prevent hackers from entering the new Polaris system, and a telephone notification system for reserves and overdues. In the wake of recent budget cuts and the persistent threat of further cuts at the state level, the Director and Clerk-Treasurer will be looking at ways to further reduce our operating budget for 2003 and the future. A lock system is being installed on the front staff entrance door to prevent patrons from entering the building before library hours. Board members and guests will be let into the building on Board meeting days. Mr. Dansizen, Building Committee Chair, reported that the insurance estimate for the damaged HVAC compressor has been sent to the insurance company and we are waiting on their final determination. Leaky windows on the north side of the building have been re-caulked, and Jeffery Carr Construction has repaired some loose railings. Mr. Powell, Strategic Planning Chair, reported that a draft of the Strategic plan has been received from Holy Cow Consulting. The management staff will do the next step of goal setting. Phil Stahler reported that the Friends of the library are still accepting reservations for their annual dinner, which will be held at the Canton Women’s Club on Wednesday, April 2, 2003. The next regular meeting of the North Canton Public Library Board of Trustees will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at 8:00 a.m. Mr. Lawton moved, Mr. Powell seconding, to adjourn the meeting at 8:35 a.m. Ayes: Dansizen, Lawton, Powell, Shoup. Absent: Hoover, Schiltz, Zollinger. Thomas Shoup, President Roberta Zollinger, Secretary |
