The Hunters Moon
by O.R. Melling

The Hunters Moon takes place throughout Ireland during the present day.  In this story you will read about many characters such as Gwen and Findabhair (Finn-ah-veer).  They are two cousins who are also best friends and both believe in fairies.  They decide to travel around Ireland to check out the areas where they believe they could find fairies.  During their trip Findabhair is kidnapped and Gwen must go on a quest to rescue her cousin from the fairy world, which is known by them as Faerie.  Most of the fairies are tricky creatures who try to do whatever they can to stop Gwen from retrieving her couse.  While Gwen endures many hardships and trials she makes new friends who are determined to help her when she needs them.  Gwen is surprised to discover that Findabhair and her are not the only ones who believe in fairies or the fairies world.  It is later on that Gwen discovers that there must be a living sacrifice in order for Faerie to continue to exist.  This sacrifice is only needed every couple centuries and is called the Hunters Moon (hence the name of the book).  Will the characters make it out of this predicament alive?  Is the sacrifice to be human or fairy?  Which ever one, who is to be the chosen sacrifice?  Read this book to find out.

I recommend this book for grades 8-12 (ages 13-18).  Also people who like mysteries, fantasies, fairies, vampires, werewolves, aliens, unknown worlds, and so on.
