Nancy Schory

As Head of the Children's Department, I am so lucky to be working with such a dedicated and creative staff! When I started 11 years ago, I did monthly visits to almost all of the Kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms in the North Canton City Schools. I performed storytelling and book talks, but gradually I have handed these duties over to my capable staff. This year I will only be doing Poetry Breaks for grades 4 and 5.

When I'm not helping at the checkout desk or working on staff scheduling, I'm ordering books for the Children's Department. It is always exciting to peruse the new books as they come in and decide where they should go in our collection. I post 25 of these new books on our website every two weeks. This, however, makes it necessary to weed out old books and books that don't circulate to keep our collection fresh, updated and make room for new items.

I also attend meetings of the North Canton School Library Media Committee and do occasional programs in the community. Managing the Children's Department is very rewarding and lots of fun! We hope you enjoy visiting us as much as we enjoy working here.

Here are some of my favorite books. It's very hard to select just a few so please ask us for suggestions when you visit. We'd all be glad to expand our lists for you!
