The Board of Trustees of the North Canton Public
Library held a regular meeting on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at the library.
Mr. Lawton called the meeting to order at 8:02 a.m. with the following
members present: Mr. Lawton, Mrs. Ziarko, Mr. Dansizen, Mr. Smetana. Absent:
Mr. Shoup, Mrs. Zollinger, and Mrs. Rankin. Others: Karen Sonderman, Kelly
Kroll, Jo Ann Simon. Guests: Phil Stahler, Gail Ebey.
Mr. Dansizen moved, Mrs. Ziarko seconding, to
accept the minutes of the January 17, 2007 meeting as presented. Ayes:
Lawton, Ziarko, Dansizen, Smetana. Absent: Shoup, Zollinger, and Rankin.
Report of the Clerk-Treasurer:
Mrs. Kroll reviewed the financial report for the months of January 2007 and
February 2007. The unencumbered balance in all funds at the end of January
was about $445,000.00. Encumbrances totaled about $274,000.00 due to new
blanket purchase orders done at the beginning of the year. February is the
largest month for LLGSF money. We received about $116,000 in January and
$332,000.00 in February. Unencumbered balance in all funds at the end of
February was $682,000.00. Mrs. Kroll made some changes on the revenue and
expenditures reports by eliminated some of the subtotals thereby making the
report shorter. She stated all of the information is still listed but more
condensed. There was some discussion on whether the Board should approve the
financial report for each month. Mr. Lawton felt the Board should and asked
for a motion. Mr. Dansizen moved, Mr. Smetana seconding to accept the
financial report as presented. Ayes: Lawton, Ziarko, Dansizen, Smetana.
Absent: Shoup, Zollinger, and Rankin.
Mrs. Ziarko moved, Mr. Dansizen seconding, to
accept the following gifts for the Memorial and Gift Fund:
North Canton Retired Elementary and Middle School
Teachers donated $15.00 for the purchase of a book in memory of Margaret
Sponseller – 1/10/2007.
The Friends of the North Canton Public Library
donated $2,000.00 for floor mats for the library – 1/24/2007.
The Friends of the North Canton Public donated
$4,580.00 for program expenses for the library - 1/24/2007.
Nancy Hough donated $50.00 for the purchase of
materials in memory of Grace Schory – 2/20/2007.
Terri Greenwald donated $14.95 for the purchase of
materials in honor of Joey Greenwald – 2/20/2007.
Ayes: Lawton, Dansizen, Smetana, and Ziarko.
Absent: Shoup, Zollinger, and Rankin.

Committee Reports:
Building – The Children’s Department electrical issues have been corrected.
Art – The Director reported that “Art in the Classroom” from the middle
school is currently on display in the gallery. Next month will feature
the elementary schools.
Budget & Finance – None
Personnel – None
Future Planning – Mr. Dansizen reported the committee is meeting with Triad
Architects on Tuesday, March 22, 2007. He feels this project is progressing
very nicely.

Other Reports:
We have received a letter from North Canton City Schools regarding
re-appointment of Ken Dansizen to the Board of Trustees for a seven-year
term beginning January 1, 2007 (letter attached).
Mrs. Kroll presented a year-end 2006 report from
Unique Management Services for materials and fines recovered (attached). The
board was very pleased with the materials and fines that were recovered last
year.
Mrs. Ziarko moved, Mr. Smetana seconding to
accept the resolution authorizing the North Canton Public Library to
participate in the State of Ohio Cooperative Purchasing Program (see
Resolution attached). There is an annual fee of $110. After some discussion
the board voted. Ayes: Ziarko, Smetana, Dansizen, and Lawton. Absent: Shoup,
Zollinger, and Rankin.
Phil Stahler, Friends of the Library representative,
reported that they are having a book sale in April.
The next regular meeting of the North Canton Public
Library Board of Trustees will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 8:00
a.m. at the library.
Mr. Smetana moved, Mr. Dansizen seconded to
adjourn the meeting at 8:41 a.m. Ayes: Smetana, Dansizen, Ziarko, and
Lawton. Absent: Shoup, Zollinger, and Rankin.
