Staff Presentation - Nancy Schory, Department Head in Children’s Services
spoke on behalf of the Children’s department and the need for more room.
She expressed a need for more material space stating that more books and
audio visual materials were published in last couple of years than ever
before. Without weeding valuable materials, they do not have enough
space. Also, there is not enough floor space for the patrons, furniture, and materials. The Library program attendance this
year so far was 2,945. Schools and pre-school visits included 6,568
students to date this year. We have held 324 programs this year.
Currently our materials are stored in 4 different places around the
building. A cart was purchased to move the materials. Desk
coverage is sometimes
compromised because staff is needed on another floor. She reminded us that
our children are one-third of our circulation and our future patrons.
Mr.
Smetana asked about building out on the roof for an addition to the
children’s department. Some discussion of this idea followed. Also, Mrs. Rankin
commented that Mrs. Schory and the children’s staff are great liaisons to
the North Canton Public Schools.
Staff
Presentation - Delores Albrecht stated that her daughter and grandson recently visited our Children’s Department. They were extremely
impressed with our library.
Public
Presentation - Sara Schumaker encouraged the Board to observe an art class
in process.
The next regular meeting of the North Canton Public Library Board of
Trustees will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at 8:00 a.m. at the
library.
Mr. Dansizen moved, Mrs. Rankin seconding, to adjourn the meeting at 8:45
a.m. Ayes: Shoup, Dansizen, Smetana, Ziarko, Zollinger and
