The Board of Trustees of the
North Canton Public Library held a regular meeting on Wednesday, December
19, 2007 at the library. Mr. Shoup called the meeting to order at 8:08
a.m. with the following members present: Mr. Shoup, Mrs. Rankin, Mr.
Smetana, Mr. Fonte, and Mrs. Ziarko, Mrs. Zollinger. Absent: Mr. Dansizen.
Staff: Karen Sonderman, Kelly Kroll, Sandra Lang, JoAnn Simon.
Mr. Smetana moved, Mrs. Zollinger seconding,
to accept the minutes of the November 21, 2007 minutes by correcting Mrs.
Zollinger as absent in the voting. Ayes: Mr. Shoup, Mrs. Rankin,
Mrs. Zollinger, Mr. Fonte, Mr. Smetana, and Mrs. Ziarko.
Report of the Clerk-Treasurer:
Mrs. Kroll reviewed the financial report for the month of November 2007.
The cash balance in all funds was about $900,770.00, and encumbrances were
about $131,000.00. The ending balance in all funds was about
$769,700.00. Month to date revenues in all funds was about $222,179.00
and year to date was about $1,927,500.00. Month to date expenses for all
funds were about $257,900.00. We have spent approximately
$1,769,500.00 year to date. Also, Mrs. Kroll submitted the investment report
for November – 2007 (attached). Mrs. Rankin moved, Mrs. Ziarko
seconding to accept the Clerk-Treasurer’s report for November, 2007
as presented and to be filed for audit. Ayes: Mr. Shoup, Mrs.
Rankin, Mr. Smetana, Mrs. Zollinger, Mr. Fonte, and Mrs. Ziarko.
Mrs. Kroll also reported the

Public Library donated $7,600.00 for various programs and services –
11/28/2007. It was noted that this money is used for such items as
floor mats, summer reading programs, and periodicals.

to accept the gifts with appreciation. Ayes: Mr. Shoup, Mrs.

Report of the Director:

Committee Reports:
Building – Chairman, Ken Dansizen was absent. Mrs. Sonderman reported
the concrete work is finished. Mrs. Ziarko moved and Mr.
Smetana seconded to approve a change order in the amount of
$7,725.00 for more concrete work done on the walkway. Ayes: Mr.
Shoup, Mrs. Zollinger, Mrs. Ziarko, Mrs. Rankin, Mr. Smetana, Mr. Fonte.
Art – “New Horizons," by Carol
Mendenhall & Judith Singer; opening reception was Sunday, December 9, 2007 –
2 to 4 p.m.; artwork on display December 9, 2007 through January 6, 2008.
Budget & Finance – Mrs. Kroll
explained the list of year-end appropriation transfers - (attached),
Mrs. Zollinger moved and Mrs. Rankin seconded to approve the
transfers as presented. Ayes: Mr. Shoup, Mrs. Zollinger, Mrs. Rankin,
Mrs. Ziarko, Mr. Smetana, and Mr. Fonte.
Personnel –
Retirement:
Cynthia Alpeter, Library Associate, Adult & Teen Services, 12/31/2007
New Hire:
Anne Weissfeld, Technical Services Manager/Cataloger, 12/17/2007- $18.00 per
hour.
Mr. Fonte moved and Mrs. Ziarko seconded
to memorialize the personnel changes in the permanent Board Minutes. Ayes:
Mr. Shoup, Mrs. Zollinger, Mrs. Ziarko, Mrs. Rankin, Mr. Smetana, and Mr.
Fonte.
Future Planning - None
Nominating - Mrs. Zollinger
will be speaking to each Board member about 2008 officers.
Negotiating – The Executive
Session to discuss contract negotiations was moved to the end of regular
session.

attended and expressed a need for more support to the Art community in North
Canton from the library.

to adjourn the meeting to executive session at 9:08 a.m. for the purpose of

January 16, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. at the library.
