The Director reported that the August circulation reports show a steady increase of 5% for the month, with the year-to-date usage holding steady at 6%. The new security gates have been installed and should be operational before month end. Training on use of the security system and RFID circulation procedures will be on Tuesday, September 21. With completion of tagging in the adult collection and the majority of the children’s collection, all but one of the rental conversion stations will be returned. The patron self check station will be installed next week, and publicity for this new service is being prepared. Walden Books has made a partnership Book Fair proposal to the library. The library would distribute coupons to patrons. These discount coupons would be good for a two week period. Patrons making purchases using these coupons during the designated two week period would have 10% of the sale amount returned to the library. Board members had no objection to proceeding with this project. Studio Art & Glass will be preparing a proposal for a freestanding stained glass panel to be placed next to the security gate that leads to the Ream Street entrance. Reports from Unique Collection Agency continue to be very encouraging. Our three-month free trial will be over the end of September. After reviewing some of the collection agency reports, several Board members suggested that our materials borrowing limits appear to be too high. The Director agreed to review the limits and make appropriate reductions.

Mrs. Schiltz moved, Mr. Dansizen seconding, to enter into an ongoing contract with Unique Collection Agency for the retrieval of overdue materials and unpaid fines. Ayes: Dansizen, Hoover, Lawton, Schiltz, Shoup, Smetana, Zollinger.

This year on Friday, October 8th, the library will be participating in the Susan G. Komen Brest Cancer Foundation’s National Denim Day fundraiser. In order to increase participation we will extend our participation to Saturday, October 9th also. Any staff member that donated $5.00 to this event will be allowed to wear denim clothing to work. The Director is making a personal matching contribution for every dollar donated.

Mr. Dansizen, Building Committee Chair, stated that the possibility of moving the book drops is still being studied.

Mrs. Hoover, Art Committee Chair, reported that opening on Sunday, October 3rd and continuing through Sunday, October 31st, the show One of a Kind, by well know North Canton artist Nancy Stewart Matin will display some of her most recent artwork. The F.L.A.G. fundraiser show is being planned for December 12th through January 9th. This year’s featured artist will be long time watercolor teacher Rudy Amatangelo. The gallery will be celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2005, and a celebration is being planned.

Mrs. Zollinger, Logo Committee Chair, noted that the committee has looked at works by four area artists, and has agreed to have Jeff Monter of the Innis Maggiore Group advertising agency, prepare some ideas for review.

Phil Stahler, Friends of the Library representative, reported that the summer book sale brought in over $5,700.00, and that the lobby ongoing sale continues to earn about $700.00 a month.

The next regular meeting of the North Canton Public Library Board of Trustees will be held on Wednesday, October 20th, 2004 at 8:00 a.m. at the library.

Mr. Lawton moved, Mrs. Zollinger seconding, to adjourn the meeting at 8:55 a.m. Ayes: Dansizen, Hoover, Lawton, Schiltz, Shoup, Smetana, Zollinger.
