NORTH CANTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
BOARD MEETING MINUTES
November 17, 2004

The Board of Trustees of the North Canton Public Library held a regular meeting on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at the library. Mr. Shoup called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m. with the following members present: Mr. Dansizen, Mrs. Hoover, Mr. Lawton, Mrs. Schiltz, Mr. Smetana, Mrs. Zollinger. Others: Karen Sonderman, Farilyn Buchman. Guests: Phil Stahler, Akemi Mazak.

Mr. Lawton moved, Mrs. Zollinger seconding, to accept the minutes of the October 20, 2004 meeting as corrected. Ayes: Dansizen, Hoover, Lawton, Schiltz, Shoup, Smetana, Zollinger.

The Clerk-Treasurer’s report for October 2004 was accepted and filed for audit.

Mr. Dansizen moved, Mr. Lawton seconding, approval for the Clerk-Treasurer to make the following General Fund modifications to the appropriation;

Mrs. Zollinger moved, Mrs. Hoover seconding, to make the following increases to the Memorial and Gift Fund appropriations;

The Director presented the statistical report for October 2004. Both circulation and service statistics continue to increase at a healthy rate. Information on the proposed digitization project of the North Canton Sun was presented and reviewed. In order to proceed with a $100,000 grant request to the Hoover Foundation, an official partnership with the North Canton Heritage Society must be approved.

Mrs. Schiltz moved, Mr. Dansizen seconding, to enter into a partnership with the North Canton Heritage Society in a project for the digitization of the North Canton Sun, in an effort to obtain grant money. Ayes: Dansizen, Hoover, Lawton, Schiltz, Shoup, Smetana, Zollinger.

Mr. Dansizen, Building Committee Chair, reported that some basic drawings for relocating the book drops have been completed. This proposal would reverse the traffic flow for the back parking lot along Ream Street. ITS Construction has found several blocked downspouts leading from the roof, which would account for leaking during heavy rainstorms. They also discovered some problems with some of the flashings. They will be proceeding with repairs.

Mrs. Hoover, Art Committee Chair, noted that beginning December 12, 2004 and continuing through January 9, 2005, the Friends of the Little Art Gallery will be presenting Rudy Amantangelo~A Tribute honoring the Canton artist with a display of his watercolors. Mr. Amatangelo has been a long time teacher of watercolor at the library.

Mr. Dansizen moved, Mrs. Schiltz seconding, to accept the retirement on disability of Maria Meymarian, effective December 18, 2004. Ayes: Dansizen, Hoover, Lawton, Schiltz, Shoup, Smetana, Zollinger.

Mrs. Zollinger, Logo Committee Chair, presented the new library logo. Several color options were displayed, with the shades of teal/blue being the favorite. This new design features a contemporary open book design.

The Long Range Planning Committee will meet early in 2005 to review progress that has been made on the goals that were made during the planning process.

Mr. Dansizen moved, Mr. Lawton seconding, to adjourn the meeting to executive session at 8:45 a.m. to discuss the labor negotiations.
