The Director reported that July was another
record-breaking month in circulation with over 97,000 items borrowed. The
RFID tagging project is progressing well. The staff had some great teamwork
going on during the days we were closed for this. Only about half the adult
non-fiction, and the juvenile collection remain to be tagged. The security
gates will be installed very soon, and some furniture has been relocated in
anticipation of the patron self check stations. Some new AV shelving has been
added which has allowed DVD’s and new AV materials to be places in a more
visible location. In conjunction with the North Canton Heritage Society, we
will be pursuing funding for the digitization of very old and fragile issues
of the North Canton Sun. It is estimated that this project will cost in
excess of $100,000.00. Initial reports on our return due to implementation of
the collection agency are excellent. Normal return following the first weeks
of the process is 30%, and we have received a 36% return/payment rate. During
June, 103 delinquent accounts generated over $700 in payments and nearly
$2,000 worth of returned materials. In conjunction with the Main Street
Festival, which will be held this weekend, the Friend s of the Library Book
Sale will be going on. The lower level of the library will be available on
Sunday for the sale, but there will be no library services.
Ken Dansizen, Building Committee Chair, stated that
several new electric outlets have been added for Polaris workstations and the
security gates. The drinking fountain has also been relocated.
Ms. Hoover, Art Committee Chair, reported that opening on
August 21 and continuing through September 26, The Landscape Twice
Observed by Randall Slaughter will present a modern approach to landscapes
using a variety of media.
Phil Stahler, Friends of the Library representative,
reported that the Friends members are well prepared for the book sale.
Mrs. Zollinger reported that the Logo Committee will be
meeting to interview artists to help with the creation of a new library logo.
The next meeting of the North Canton Public Library Board
of Trustees will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at the library.
