Artwork by students of the North Canton School District is highlighted in
this annual
exhibit. January 21
through February 12 will feature the work of students from Hoover High
School. The high school exhibit showcases the advanced technical
skills and creative insight
evident in the work of older students.
On display from February 18
through March 11 will be
art by students of the North Canton Middle School. The
Art from the Classroom
exhibit then ends with the artistic endeavors of the elementary school
children of Greentown, Northwood,
Clearmount, Orchard Hill and the Mary L. Evans Early Childhood Center, on
display
March 17
through
April 8.
Art
from the Classroom
exemplifies the importance of and commitment to visual artistic
education in North Canton. The Little Art Gallery is proud to be a
part in furthering this
dedication by highlighting the creative talents of the children in the
community.

70th
Annual May Show - Call for Entries. Come be a part of this community
tradition. The Little Art Gallery of the North Canton Public Library will
hold the 70th Annual May Show fine art juried exhibit from May 5th
through June 2nd
, 2012. The First Annual May
Show was held in 1942. At that
time three rooms in the Library were utilized to showcase the exhibit.
According to The Sun Newspaper’s May 13, 1942 article Ninety-four
works of art were entered.
Ellsworth P. Smith a familiar loved local artist was one of the judges for
the first May Show. Along with
him were Howard Summers, Kenneth Smith and Nell Mackey.
Today’s May Show is open to any artist 16 years of age and older living in
Stark County. All works submitted must be original, recent (within the past
five years) and not previously exhibited in a Little Art Gallery competitive
show. All media, with the exception of photography (unless altered as mixed
media Fine Art), will be accepted for consideration.
Entry forms are currently available at area art organizations, The Little
Art Gallery of the North Canton Public Library and online at:
www.ncantonlibrary.org.
The 2012 entry fee is $25 per artist. This fee includes submission of two
works. Only one work per artist
per media category will be exhibited. The fee also entitles entrant to a one
year Friends of the Little Art Gallery (FLAG) membership.
Entries will be accepted at The Little Art Gallery on Monday, April 16th
from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and on Tuesday, April 17th
from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Artwork will be judged in one of five categories: Oil & Acrylic, Watercolor,
Drawing &
Original Prints, Three Dimensional Objects or Mixed Media.
Over $1,400 in cash prizes will be awarded, including a $300 grand
prize for Best in Show.
